In a sense, this book is like a cookbook for performance. Scores from over 20 years are presented with general notes about performance and materials preceding the rulesets for how the pieces begin, continue, and end. Additional notes about the context and evolution of the pieces appear as footnotes on the first page of their scores.

This book was designed, most importantly, to be used. Wherever possible, two-page scores, or pages of longer scores which should be viewed together in rehearsal, appear on facing pages. The careful use of page breaks supports the flow of the text.

This book length poem is made up of ten sections. Each was preceded by a page echoing the design of the cover. The arrangement of Hebrew letters in the design is derived from the traditional depiction of the Ten Commandments; the appropriate letter is highlighted at the start of each chapter. Each chapter title page contains a photograph by Matthew Sharlot of an appropriate Jewish ritual object. The cover photograph depicts a ghostly image of the Shekhinah (the presence of God) before a Torah scroll.
